Google informe les utilisateurs américains de sa messagerie Gmail du règlement d’un litige relatif à Google Buzz.
Le démarrage en trombe du réseau social, survenu en février, avait négligé le volet de la sécurité des données personnelles.
A tel point qu’une procédure collective devant la justice (class action) avait été initiée. Sans compter sur l’action de l’Electronic Frontier Foundation devant la FTC.
Selon la justice américaine, tous les utilisateurs de Gmail ayant utilisé Google Buzz avant le 2 novembre 2010 peuvent rejoindre la procédure.
Un accord à l’amiable dans des poursuites concernant Google Buzz a été trouvé, fait savoir Google dans un communiqué.
Concrètement, le groupe Internet propose de verser la somme de 8,5 millions de dollars à un fonds pour financer des organisations de défense de la vie privée sur Internet et d’éducation des internautes.
On évoque aussi dans la presse IT « compensations » de 2500 dollars pour chaque plaignant (sept) mais cet élément n’est pas confirmé dans les documents officiels.
Un tribunal californien (United States District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division) devrait étudier l’accord le 31 janvier 2011 pour mettre un terme à la procédure.
Néanmoins, si des utilisateurs de Gmail aux Etats-Unis souhaitent contester le règlement par la class action concernant Google Buzz, ils peuvent se manifester avant cette échéance.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
