Il est trop tôt pour dire si Google Instant va s’ancrer dans les habitudes du milliard d’utilisateurs du moteur de recherche.
Cette technologie de recherche prédictive a vocation à accélérer la recherche d’information.
Les analystes IT considèrent Google Instant comme un avantage de Google face à Microsoft Bing et Yahoo avec une recette simple : plus de business généré à partir de plus de recherches.
Grâce à l’usage d’AJAX et aux technologies de cache, l’outil permet l’affichage quasi-instantanée des résultats alors que la requête initiale est à peine achevée dans le champ de recherche.
Cette technologie pourrait aider les utilisateurs à raccourcir leur temps de recherche par environ 2 à 5 secondes en moyenne par recherche, assure Google.
C’est un gain de temps considérable, sachant que les utilisateurs ont besoin en moyenne de 25 secondes pour émettre une requête Google.
Rarement, les utilisateurs de Google Instant seront obligés de recourir à plusieurs requêtes moteur pour trouver l’information pertinente.
Selon certains experts IT, l’usage de cette nouvelle fonction de « recherche rapide » sur Google devrait booster le volume global de recherche, ce qui permettra à la firme de Mountain View d’engranger davantage de revenus publicitaires issus de ses activités « search ».
« Nous pensons qu’une telle amélioration technologique peut accroître le volume total et la fréquence des recherches si les utilisateurs adoptent l’automatisation », considère Youssef Squali, analyste chez Jefferies and Co.
Ce n’est pas tout. Puisque Google Instant offre une route plus rapide vers les résultats populaires, cela fera monter en flèche le business tiré des requêtes dites « head-end queries ».
Puisque ces recherches sont mieux monétisées sur la base du coup par clic (CPC), les recherches qui tendent à profiter de l’effet longue traîne seront minimisées par l’impact de la recherche prédictive.
« Cela peut relever le niveau de revenu par recherche (RPS), toutes choses étant égales par ailleurs », estime Youssef Squali.
« Cela peut paraître difficile de s’habituer à l’interface en temps réel mise en place par Google mais nous pensons que ce système pourrait densifier le volume et la fréquence de recherches à partir d’un PC voire d’un mobile », affirme Youssef Squali.
