Google sortira son OS Chrome en 2010
Le projet Google Chrome Operating System est officiellement dévoilé. L’OS sera open source et visera en priorité les netbooks.
Après le navigateur, Google prépare un système d’exploitation. Dans une contribution blog en date du 7 juillet, Sundar Pichai, en qualité de VP Product Management, et Linus Upson, qui occupe les fonctions d’Engineering Director, viennent de dévoiler le secret de polichinelle.
« Aujourd’hui, nous annonçons un nouveau projet qui est une extension naturelle de [notre navigateur] Google Chrome : le Google Chrome Operating System ». Ce sera un OS open source qui vise les netbook et qui sera disponible à partir du deuxième semestre 2010.
Les représentants de Google assurent que ce nouveau produit sera « rapide, simple et fiable en termes de sécurité ». Le nouvel OS sera compatible avec les environnements serveurs x86 mais aussi avec les puces ARM.
Dans la même contribution blog, Google précise que ce nouveau projet Google Chrome Operating System est séparé de l’initiative Android (OS mobile de Google). Il est dévoilé neuf mois après le lancement du navigateur Google Chrome, qui aurait déjà séduit 30 millions d’internautes.
