La Google TV viendrait-elle de prendre un sérieux coup dans l’aile ? Depuis plusieurs mois, cette nouvelle plate-forme de la firme de Mountain View, basée sur l’OS Android et embarquant le navigateur Chrome, n’enthousiasme par les chaînes de télévision américaines.
Rappelons que cette Google TV, qui doit débarquer aux Etats-Unis avant la fin de l’année, et arriver en Europe dans le courant 2011, permettra ainsi d’accéder au Web depuis sa télévision connectée à Internet, via une connexion Ethernet ou Wi-Fi.
Cette plate-forme devrait ainsi permettre, depuis un moteur de recherche, d’accéder facilement à des programmes TV et aux chaînes associées mais aussi à Internet, pour, par exemple, visionner ses photos stockées en ligne ou écouter de la musique en streaming .
Seulement, en août dernier, les discussions entamées avec certaines grandes chaînes télévisées US, comme ABC, CBS, la Fox et NBC s’étaient révélées houleuses : elles doutaient alors de ce moteur de recherche intégré permettant au spectateur-internaute de visualiser n’importe quelle vidéo disponible sur n’importe quelle plate-forme.
Elles avaient ainsi peur de la confusion des genres, dans la mesure où leurs contenus légaux pourraient se retrouver aux côtés de vidéos illégales et piratées…
Pour mettre fin à ces tergiversations, une décision radicale vient d’être prise. Le Wall Street Journal révèle aujourd’hui que trois importantes chaînes TV, à savoir ABC, NBC et CBS, ont décidé de bloquer l’ensemble de leurs programmes qui devaient être consultables depuis la Google TV…
Ne restent disponibles sur la Google TV que les bandes-annonces des séries populaires diffusées par ces blockbusters, comme The Mentalist, NCIS ou encore Desperate Housewives…
A part continuer de négocier, la firme de Mountain View se retrouve piégée : elle ne peut se passer des accords de ces chaînes de télévision pour proposer leurs contenus. Ce coup de bambou pourrait aussi faire reculer l’intérêt des internautes/téléspectateurs pour cette nouvelle plate-forme connectée…
