A l’occasion de l’Open World Forum de Paris, l’INRIA, l’Université Pierre et Marie Curie ainsi que l’Université Paris Diderot ont présenté le nouveau centre IRILL, consacré au développement et à la promotion du logiciel libre.
L’Initiative pour la Recherche et l’Innovation sur le Logiciel Libre (IRILL) a ainsi pour but de soutenir toutes les actions consistant à renforcer la confiance dans le logiciel libre. L’IRILL est aussi un observatoire des actions de transfert en particulier vers et avec les PME.
L’Initiative pour la Recherche et l’innovation sur le Logiciel Libre siège depuis septembre 2010 dans les locaux parisiens de l’INRIA.
Depuis 2009, l’IRILL a mis en place un programme de travail composé d’experts scientifiques, technologiques et industriels. Ainsi, ces chercheurs, développeurs et industriels peuvent mettre à contribution les ressources de ce centre à propos des logiciels libres.
Pour mener à bien ses missions, l’IRILL abrite des groupes de recherches chargés de plancher sur des thèmes précis.
Ainsi, plusieurs projets sont en cours de développement, comme le projet Coccinelle, un logiciel permettant de faire évoluer de grands logiciels grâce à des « patchs sémantiques ». Il permet à des développeurs de proposer des correctifs sur le programme source.
Quant au projet européen Mancoosi, financé par l’Union Européenne, il est destiné à améliorer la qualité des mécanismes de mise à jour pour les logiciels libres, exploités dans les environnements GNU/Linux.
