Après la vulgarisation des technologies 1-10 Gigabits Ethernet (GbE), les opérateurs visent désormais le 100 GbE. Mais on en reste au stade des essais.
Ainsi, l’opérateur européen Colt (d’origine britannique) vient d’annoncer la réalisation d’un premier test d’une connexion de 100 Gigabits Ethernet sur un segment de son réseau.
Il a pour cela fait appel aux technologies de l’équipementier réseaux très haut débit Infinera préalablement intégrées sur cette liaison (Londres-Francfort) pour ses besoins commerciaux.
« Pour cet essai, Colt a eu recours à la plate-forme optique DTN d’Infinera pour effectuer une transmission de 100 Gbit/s sur 861 kilomètres entre Londres et Francfort sur son propre réseau de fibres optiques à faible latence » , peut-on lire sur un communiqué de l’opérateur.
Lors de cette transmission, la latence mesurée sur le circuit de 100 Gb/s était de 4,23 millisecondes.
En pratique, Colt a utilisé un prototype d’interface client Ethernet 100 Gbit/s conforme avec la norme IEEE 802.3ba, adoptée en juin 2010.
Le test et la vérification de la transmission des données ont été effectués au moyen d’un testeur EXFO FTB-85 100Gbps Packet Blazer.
Cet essai préfigure ce que seront dans un avenir proche les réseaux de transmission longue distance, confrontés à une augmentation notable de la demande en bande passante.
