Service vidéos : Orange Vallée abandonne le projet Welles
Le projet de plate-forme vidéos par Orange Vallée est jeté aux oubliettes. Mais la cellule d’incubation de services Web innovants du groupe télécoms compte creuser d’autres thèmes. La mobilité et l’e-book par exemple.
C’était entendu : Orange allait bousculer le monde de l’audiovisuel avec le projet Welles dont ITespresso avait révélé l’existence en mai dernier.
Des discussions avaient été engagées entre l’opérateur et de nombreux producteurs de contenus vidéos.
Mais au détour d’un article des Échos, Orange annonce qu’il renonce finalement à sortir « Welles ». Étonnant : une version de test avait été mise en ligne dans le courant de l’été.
Contacté par ITespresso, Jean-Louis Constanza, directeur d’Orange Vallée qui incube une dizaine de projets Web novateurs (dont Welles), confirme l’abandon du projet.« Les développements techniques seront transférés dans le cadre d’un projet vidéo unique qui est géré par d’autres entités », précise-t-il.
Pourtant, selon nos informations, Orange avait engagé plusieurs millions d’euros dans le développement de ce projet avant de le mettre à l’arrêt pour des raisons qui n’ont pas été communiqué.
Néanmoins, il semblerait que le projet de création d’un portail de télévision de rattrapage type « Hulu.com à la française » avec TF1, Canal Plus et M6 aux commandes ait refroidi les ardeurs d’Orange.
D’autres développements en cours
Si Welles est donc bel et bien enterré, d’autres produits prennent le relais comme la tablette interactive Tabbee, créée par Orange Vallée.
« C’est un produit qui fonctionne vraiment très bien » , déclare Jean-Louis Constanza.
Le directeur d’Orange Vallée refuse de communiquer le moindre chiffre mais le cap des 10 000 exemplaires vendus serait atteint.
Enfin, les projets de la cellule d’innovation Web d’Orange ne manquent pas. Cinq nouveaux produits seront annoncés dans les semaines à venir, dont certains liés à l’univers mobile.
Après la vidéo, Orange Vallée souhaite également explorer l’univers du livre. Jean-Louis Constanza suggère qu’il aimerait faciliter « l’accès aux œuvres littéraires » . Un Google Books made in Orange ?
