Skype est tombé en rade mercredi pendant plusieurs heures.
Ce type d’incident long, qui a affecté le service de téléphonie sur Internet, est finalement assez rare.
L’équipe de Skype a diffusé un message sur Twitter en soirée pour signaler que le service reprendrait progressivement son fonctionnement normal.
Parallèlement, sur le blog officiel, elle indique avoir identifié l’origine de la panne au niveau des « supernodes ».
Ses ordinateurs sont présentés comme des répertoires téléphoniques qui jouent un rôle central pour contacter ses interlocuteurs via le service Skype.
« En temps normal, il existe un nombre important de supernodes disponibles. Malheureusement, beaucoup d’entre vous ont été déconnectés en raison d’un problème affectant certaines versions de Skype », explique l’équipe de maintenance technique du service de téléphonie.
Pour pallier à cette carence, elle a élaboré des « mega-supernodes » censé favoriser un rétablissement plus rapide de la plate-forme. Comptez plusieurs heures tout de même avant un retour à la normale, a prévenu Skype.
Au cours de ce redémarrage, certaines fonctions plus élaborées comme les appels vidéo ont perdu en fiabilité.
Selon un dernier message sur Twitter déposé par l’équipe de Skype, il subsiste encore des dysfonctionnements jeudi matin.
Récemment, Skype a battu son record d’utilisateurs connectés simultanément (25 millions d’utilisateurs le 24 novembre dernier).
