Passage de relais en douceur chez Twitter. Le co-fondateur Evan Williams, qui occupait les fonctions de P-DG de la société exploitant le filon du micro-blogging, annonce qu’il cède sa place au directeur général (COO) Dick Costolo.
Un choix d’orientation de management, semble-t-il. Evan Williams préfère se concentrer sur la stratégie produit et laisser la gestion opérationnelle de Twitter à son bras droit.
Twitter doit canaliser son hyper-croissance alors que le réseau social a récemment fait peau neuve.
« Il y a plus de 300 personnes qui travaillent chez Twitter aujourd’hui comparé aux 20 présentes lorsque j’ai accepté de devenir P-DG il y a deux ans », écrit Evan Williams sur le blog officiel. « À cette époque, 1,25 millions de ‘tweets’ par jour étaient générés, contre 90 millions aujourd’hui. Au cours de la même période, le nombre d’inscrits est passé de 3 millions d’inscrits à plus de 160 millions aujourd’hui ».
De l’ère de la fondation de Twitter et de l’enthousiasme inhérent d’une start-up qui décolle, il faut passer au stade de la gestion rationnelle du développement. « A partir d’aujourd’hui, je vais me concentrer complètement sur la stratégie produit », précise Evan Williams.
La création de Twitter remonte à 2006. Deux des trois fondateurs (Evan Williams et Biz Stone) travaillent toujours dans la société Internet.
Quant à Jack Dorsey, il a quitté Twitter pour fonder une autre start-up orientée micro-paiement sur mobile (Square) mais il conserve le titre de président du conseil d’administration.
