Le business des raccourcis d’URL se porte bien, à en croire Bit.ly qui vient de réaliser une nouvelle levée de fonds de 10 millions de dollars, sous la houlette du fonds RRE Ventures.
Dans le pool constitué pour ce tour de table, on trouve d’autres investisseurs comme AOL Ventures, O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures ou Betaworks.
Depuis sa création en 2008, Bit.ly a levé 15 millions de dolllars (dont 1,5 million de dollars pour le financement de la dette).
Sur la seule année 2010, le service de génération, de partage et de tracking de mini-URL a permis de générer plus de 40 milliards de clics.
Du coup, Bit.ly serait classé à la 69ème position dans le top des plus gros trafics des sites Web (source Google).
La société a installé son siège social à New York et a bénéficié du soutien de Betaworks (structure d’incubation pour start-up).
Elle vivrait essentiellement des abonnements à la version premium Bit.ly Pro (3000 clients).
Mais cette fonctionnalité est de plus en plus intégrée par les groupes Internet qui comptent : Google (goo.gl), Facebook (fb.me), Flickr (Fli.kr) ou Twitter (t.co).

Les URL raccourcies sont une mauvaise pratique. Les antivirus devraient les interdire, les browsers devraient les démasquer automatiquement et les utilisateurs devraient s’en méfier comme d’un mail contenant un exécutable en attachement.

Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
