Alors que les voitures chargées de photographier les rues des villes et villages continuent de parcourir le monde pour son service Street View, Google est toujours confronté aux suites de la polémique liée à sa collecte illégale de données personnelles.
La firme de Mountain View, qui vient de nommer un responsable des données personnelles chargé de veiller à l’usage et à la protection de celles-ci au sein de ses services, a reconnu que des fragments de données (e-mails, URL entières, mots de passe) ont été enregistrés par les Google Cars à l’insu des internautes.
« Personne n’avait analysé en détail les données » , a précisé dans une contribution blog, Alan Eustace, vice-président de la branche ingénierie et recherche.
Alan Eustace a, en outre, déclaré que « Google cherchait à gagner la confiance des utilisateurs mais que dans le cas présent, il avait échoué ».
Ces déclarations, qui ont pour but de prouver la bonne foi de l’entreprise américaine, vont avoir pour conséquence de déclencher une enquête de l’Information Commissionner’s Office, la CNIL britannique. Cette dernière avait déjà initié une enquête préliminaire il y a quelques mois.
Pour sa défense, le moteur n’avait d’autres choix que d’annoncer plusieurs mesures internes pour augmenter la protection de la vie privée.
Cela passe entre autre par l’obligation pour les ingénieurs travaillant sur des projets sensibles de passer par une formation spécifique puis de signer un code de bonne conduite.
