De nouveaux détails viennent de filtrer concernant Android 3.0 Gingerbread, la nouvelle version de l’OS mobile de Google.
Optimisée pour les tablettes numériques, il se murmure qu’un kit de développement (SDK – Software Developement Kit) pourrait être disponible pour les développeurs avant la fin du mois.
Ainsi, la version définitive d’Android 3.0 pourrait voir le jour en décembre, seulement quelques mois après l’arrivée d’Android 2.2 Froyo.
Du côté des nouveautés, comme le rapporte EWeekEurope.co.uk, la version Gingerbread intègrerait une fonctionnalité de chat vidéo, via la messagerie instantanée GTalk.
Apple, via iOS 4 et l’iPhone 4, avait introduit cet outil de visiophonie, à partir de l’outil FaceTime, permettant de passer depuis son smartphone des appels vidéo, sans configuration préalable.
En activant une caméra installée au dos de l’appareil, le détenteur du nouveau smartphone d’Apple peut entamer une session de conversation vidéo avec un interlocuteur à travers le réseau Wi-Fi.
Cette fonctionnalité de vidéo-conférence existe pas ailleurs pour les PC depuis l’interface Google GTalk Video.
Reste que la visiophonie made in Android 3.0 ne pourra alors être supportée que par un petit nombre de smartphones permettant d’utiliser cette fonctionnalité. Quelques constructeurs seulement proposent déjà des terminaux compatibles, équipés d’une caméra frontale, comme HTC et Motorola.
