Cyber-attaque : les Etats-Unis se dotent d’un commandement dédié
Le CyberCom sera chargé de protéger les réseaux sensibles de la nation américaine voire de riposter.
Le Pentagone instaure un commandement militaire chargé d’effectuer des cyber-attaques et de protéger les réseaux sensibles des Etats-Unis. Le « cyber-commandement » (CyberCom) sera placé sous l’autorité du Commandement stratégique américain (Stratcom). Il devrait être opérationnel à partir de l’automne.
Robert M. Gates, secrétaire d’Etat à la Défense, devrait nommer le lieutenant général Keith Alexander à la tête du CyberCom. C’est l’actuel directeur de la puissante National Security Agency (NSA) en charge de la sécurité de la nation (veille, espionnage, interceptions de communications multi-canaux dont Internet).
Face à un afflux d’attaques en provenance de l’Internet (la Russie et la Chine sont souvent pointées du doigt), l’Administration Obama cherche à améliorer la protection de ses 15 000 réseaux numériques militaires américains et sept millions d’ordinateurs ou terminaux nomades rattachés à la Défense américaine.
Il y a six mois, William Lynn, vice-secrétaire américain à la Défense, avait déclaré que les tentatives d’intrusion sur les réseaux sensibles se comptaient en milliers par jour. Au cours des six derniers mois, l’administration américaine a consacré 100 millions de dollars pour réparer les dégâts causés par ces infiltrations.
C’était l’une des engagements du candidat Obama dans la course à la Maison Blanche : renforcer la protection des réseaux numériques face aux menaces de cyber-attaques. Le président des Etats-Unis a récemment reçu un rapport à ce sujet mais il a toujours pris le soin de distinguer les objectifs militaires et la protection de la vie privée des citoyens.
