Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) apporte des améliorations au sein de son offre de gestion des données qui a vocation à prendre en main de multiples facettes du stockage de données non structurées (sur des serveurs physiques ou des machines virtuelles) : restauration, réplication, déduplication.
Exploitée sous la marque Hitachi Data Protection Suite (HDPS, version 9) et fortement intégrée à l’offre Hitachi Content Platform, cette solution s’appuie sur un moteur Windows et un logiciel de gestion et de protection des données estampillé CommVault (partenaire de longue date de HDS).
La filiale solutions de stockage du groupe japonais Hitachi a fourni des efforts pour « réduire les coûts » et « optimiser les opérations de stockage, l’efficacité et les niveaux de service » à travers cette solution de gestion des données.
HDPS peut être exploitée dans le cadre d’une problématique de continuité d’activité ou de gestion de cycle de vie des données physiques et virtuelles dans le cloud. En matière de virtualisation, VMware est d’ailleurs l’un des partenaires clés de HDS.
« Avec de nombreuses nouvelles fonctionnalités, la nouvelle version de la solution Hitachi Data Protection Suite pourra désormais offrir une meilleure virtualisation, une déduplication à la source et une gestion inédite de l’intégration d’applications au sein de réseaux de stockage hétérogène complexes », déclare Dave West, vice-président Marketing et développement commercial de CommVault, cité dans le communiqué.
Sur sa fiche technique, HDPS est présentée comme une solution censée faciliter l’intégration avec des solutions tierces orientées bases de données : Microsoft (Active Directory, Exchange Server, SharePoint, SQL…), IBM (DB2, Lotus Notes/Domino, Informix) et Oracle.
Sur le marché du stockage externe sur disques, Hitachi/HDS apparaît à la sixième place dans le classement Gartner des fabricants du premier trimestre 2011 avec une part de marché de 9,1% (derrière EMC, IBM, NetApp, Dell et HP).

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
