Twitter géolocalise les tweets de ses membres
La nouvelle fonctionnalité Twitter Places permet aux utilisateurs, s’ils le souhaitent, de géolocaliser leurs tweets.
Twitter is watching you : le service de micro-blogging propose désormais progressivement à ses 190 millions d’utilisateurs et dans 65 pays une nouvelle fonctionnalité de géolocalisation, baptisée Twitter Places.
Ainsi, si un utilisateur décide de divulguer l’endroit où il se trouve, un marqueur apparaîtra à côté de ses tweets. Il suffit simplement de nommer l’endroit où l’on se trouve en se rendant sur l’onglet « Ajouter un endroit ».
En survolant ce marqueur, apparaîtra sur une carte Google Maps l’endroit où se trouve le membre Twitter.
Soucieux de préserver la vie personnelle de ses utilisateurs, cette nouvelle fonctionnalité de géolocalisation est désactivée par défaut, mais peut être activée d’un simple clic à partir de l’onglet “Paramètres” du compte.
Facebook pourrait à son tour se lancer dans la géolocalisation de ses membres. En mars dernier, le New York Times avait révélé que le réseau social, qui compte plus de 400 millions d’utilisateurs, pourrait bientôt intégrer un tel outil sur sa plate-forme.
Le service de micro-blogging a également annoncé, sur son blog officiel, que Twitter Places est compatible avec les services dédiés à la géolocalisation sociale, en particulier aux Etats-Unis, comme Foursquare et Gowalla.
Des API consacrées à Twitter Places ne vont pas tarder à être publiées. Ainsi, les sites Web utilisant Twitter pourront également y intégrer cet outil de géolocalisation.
