YouTube est attiré par le live streaming.
La démonstration la plus spectaculaire a été un concert live de U2 au Rose Bow en Californie, diffusé en direct sur la plate-forme vidéos de Google en octobre 2009.
Une belle performance webcast mais YouTube veut aller plus loin au-delà des coups ponctuels.
Aux Etats-Unis, une session restreinte « YouTube live streaming » va s’échelonner sur deux jours avec quatre partenaires spécialisés dans ce type de prestations : Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom et Young Hollywood.
Tous les lives en streaming seront diffusés sur les chaînes YouTube. Les diffuseurs pourront se contenter à minima d’une webcam ou d’un camescope (avec port USB/FireWire).
Des fils « Live Comments » serviront à engager des discussions entre les pros du live streaming et les membres des communautés YouTube.
« En fonction des résultats de ce test initial, nous évaluerons un déploiement plus large de la plate-forme streaming à nos partenaires dans le monde », explique Joshua Siegel et Christopher Hamilton, deux responsables « Produits » chez YouTube dans une contribution en date du 12 septembre sur le blog officiel.
