Le rachat de McAfee par Intel intrigue la Commission européenne, qui approfondirait l’étude du dossier sur les risques anti-trust.
Silicon.fr rappelle qu’en août 2010, le fabricant de processeurs leader mondial avait annoncé son intention d’acquérir le spécialiste de la sécurité IT pour 7,68 milliards de dollars (6 milliards d’euros).
Mais, selon le Wall Street Journal, les autorités européennes s’inquiètent des distorsions concurrentielles liées à ce rapprochement.
Comment Intel compte investir le domaine de la sécurité ? C’est un nouveau segment d’activités pour le groupe de Paul Otellini.
Certes, le producteur de micro-processeurs évoque sa volonté d’intégrer les technologies de sécurité de McAfee au coeur même de ses composants électroniques.
De quoi susciter la curiosité de Bruxelles, qui s’inquièterait d’une potentielle position dominante.
La Commission européenne avait déjà lourdement sanctionné Intel pour des pratiques anti-concurrentielles sur le marché des processeurs.
Face à ces inquiétudes, la Commission européenne risque donc de prolonger l’examen du processus. La validation du rachat entre Intel et McAfee ne va pas se concrétiser d’ici la fin de l’année.
